Rose Borthwick (born Leeds, UK 1983) lives and works in Gothenburg. She recently completed a masters degree in Fine art at Valand Academy where she now teaches and works with PARSE (Platform for Artistic Research in Sweden).
Interested in how we organize ourselves and each other; her work seeks to operate within an ambiguous, inter-disciplinary, subjective arena; refusing the autonomy often ascribed to canonical modernist practice and asserting that art is social.
Interested in expanded notions of artistic practice, Borthwick often collaboratively creates spaces, discussions and events. Employing a variety of formats, materials and time frames; Borthwick uses film, sound, performance and space in order to promote dialogue and experience with an audience.
A member of the Feminist Pedagogies working group, she collaboratively organised a 3 day mobilization at Valand Academy (What is Feminist Pedagogy? 2016); an attempt to collectively unpick feminist and queer pedagogies and how to enact these both inside and outside of institutional settings.
